Values

What we stand on

A value that costs nothing to hold is decoration. Each of these rules something out, which is the only way to tell whether it is real.

Do the work in daylight

Anything the family builds should survive being examined. If a venture only works while nobody is looking closely, it is not a legacy, it is a liability with a deadline.

The next generation over this quarter

Decisions get measured against a horizon longer than the person making them. That rules out a category of fast money and it is meant to.

Teach what you know

Knowledge held privately dies with the holder. Knowledge taught outlives everyone involved, which is why instruction is treated as an obligation rather than a revenue line.

Community is not an audience

The people around a name are not a market to be converted. They are the reason the name is worth anything, and they are owed more care than customers.

Earn the room

Nothing is assumed on the strength of the surname. Every venture under it is expected to stand on its own results, and to be closed if it cannot.
